Frequently Asked Questions

BACK TO GREAT LEGAL BAKE
Q. What is the Great Legal Bake?
A. The Great Legal Bake is a nationwide event where participants organise a bake sale, as you might usually do, for your colleagues, friends and family. We will provide you with some promotional material all you have to do is sign up as a Bake Coordinator for your team and get baking!
Q. When is the Great Legal Bake?
A. The event will take place over the course of the week of 10th-14th February 2020. Teams are free to run a bake after this date please contact us to request details.
Q. Are there any Health and Safety rules?
A. The Food Standards Agency has ruled that volunteer cooks and charity groups who occasionally prepare food for community events are not covered by EU laws so no need to possess a food hygiene certificate just need to be sensible about how they are prepared.

It is also not necessary to follow the Food Labelling Regulations 1996 although we suggest doing so voluntarily with regards to ingredients that could cause an allergic reaction – such as egg, milk, sulphites, peanuts and tree nuts. Full details are here.
Q. What will the Bake Coordinator have to do?
A. As Bake Coordinator you will be responsible for coordinating your organisation’s bake. This will include promoting the event to your colleagues, clients, friends and family and sending the money raised by the event to Reaching Justice Wales.
Q. How much does it cost to take part in the bake?
A. It is free to register however we ask that each participant pledges to raise as much money as they can at their bake sale.
Q. What will we be sent and when?
A. Bake Coordinators will be sent materials to advertise their bake along with information tips on fundraising and why the money is so important upon registration.
Q. Do I have to be a legal professional to take part?
A. No, anybody is welcome to join the bake; lawyers, support staff, students, legal advice providers, friends and family are all welcome.
Q. How many people do I need in my team? Can I take part individually?
A. There is no minimum or maximum number for a team. Individual participants are most welcome.
Q. How do we start fundraising?
A. Simply arrange for your office to bake some goodies and bring them into the office. You can set the pricing as you see fit and can have a manned stall or an honesty box. You may want to consider some additional options for increasing your fundraising; why not try rolling a cake trolley around the office to tempt coworkers or even selling you cakes in neighbouring offices. Host an internal competition, coffee morning, or afternoon  tea. Please see our Fundraising Hints and Tips for inspiration.
Q. When and where do I give my sponsorship money?
A. If you are an advice agency you can keep 100% of the funds from the bake, all you have to do is let us know how much was raised. All other bake monies will be due 3 months after the event. Please send any cheques made payable to Access to Justice Foundation,  c/o The Access to Justice Foundation, 48 Chancery Lane, London WC2A 1JF
